Everyone in the Pool: Local Swim Club Receives Provincial Support

SURREY – The Crescent Beach Swim Club will get more kids in the water thanks to $42,000 in Community Gaming Grants for programs that teach youth team-building and engage them in healthy and active lifestyles.

“The Swim Club has been teaching team work, discipline and sportsmanship for almost a century,” says Surrey-Panorama MLA Stephanie Cadieux. “This funding will help the club continue to provide local youth with a fun atmosphere to get active and learn life skills.”

Other Community Gaming Grants provided in the Surrey-Panorama constituency include:

  • White Rock Divers - $33,500 for springboard diving instruction.
  • White Rock-South Surrey Minor Football Club - $25,300 for their Football and Cheerleading Program.
  • Newton Figure Skating Club - $16,000 for ice skating instruction.
  • Surrey Orcas Water Polo Club - $7,100 for the Surrey Orcas Core Program and Surrey Orcas Elementary School Initiative.

This round of funding will support 457 groups receiving approximately $9.2 million in community gaming grants to support youth and disabled persons sports initiatives across B.C.

In total, the Province has budgeted $120 million for gaming grants in 2010-2011, $7.4 million higher than last year. The grants will fund approximately 6,000 organizations that benefit communities, including those that assist public safety, youth and disabled sports, people in need, fairs, festivals, museums and community services such as preschools.
